I just finished reading All the Way to the River by Elizabeth Gilbert, and this is definitely one of my favorite books of hers so far. I've previously read Eat, Pray, Love and Big Magic. Now I might pick up her novel City of Girls because she mentions writing it while mourning Rayya, so I'm curious to see what game out of that grief from a creative perspective.
Before I read this book, I had a couple of concerns. I was hearing sensationalized headlines about some of the content of the book. But as soon as I listened to the preview, I was sucked in and never looked back.
One of my main takeaways is a much better understanding of codependency and love addiction. I love how she introduced those concepts within the narrative so that I could reflect on that while learning what was happening between her and Rayya at the time.
Overall, this book offers insights that few dare to share about themselves, and I really appreciate that she made it a nonfiction book so that it continues the story of the person we first got to know in Eat Pray Love.
