Why Working Hard Is A Lie

Описание: We often hear people say that ‘if I can make it, then anyone can make it’ and ‘if they just worked hard enough, then they could change their situation’. That essentially means that people are capable of leaving the situation they’re currently in, or were potentially born into, especially if they live in America or the ‘western world’ in general. And it also means that if someone doesn’t leave those circumstances, then it’s due to laziness or a lack of effort.

This comes down to our view of capitalism, and the idea that capitalism = a system that allows anyone to put in the hard work and change their life - it kind of goes along with the proverbial American dream. Our POV? Sure, ‘anyone’ could potentially make it, but not everyone can. The structure of capitalism and the world as we know it relies on everyone not making it - in fact, the bottom group of people needs to remain big and wide in order to allow those on top to stay up there.
