Ranawana Temple | රණවන පුරාණ විහාරය

Описание: Ranawana Purana Rajamaha Viharaya is located Located in the Pilimatalawa area in the Kandy District. There is something special about this shrine. That is the tallest walking Buddha statue in Sri Lanka sitting in this Ranawaka Vihara. This is also considered to be the tallest walking Buddha statue in the world.

This Buddha is 80 feet high. The total height is 100 feet with lotus flower and base. The scene of the Asumaha Arahants walking behind the Sakman Buddha statue is wonderfully displayed here.

You can reach the top of the hill by a path with stairs through a narrow space between two large rocks created by nature. The Jataka stories of the Buddhist tradition have been created in the form of sculptures out of large clusters and added to this beauty.

Ranawana Purana Rajamaha Viharaya History: It is also believed that the history of Ranawana Vihara dates back to the reign of King Bhuvanekabahu IV during the Gampola period. History states that this place was originally started by a man named Ranawana Mohottala, according to the gold inscription given to his son Ranawana Vederala in the year 1602. Ranawana Vederala who later came to Anuradhapura has described this description to Goddess Henakanda Bisobandara during the reign of King Bhuvanekabahu IV. It is said that she was happy about this and renovated this temple and handed over the custody to a new monk.

The other highlight of the place is that it is the only place in Sri Lanka where the Sanchi Pantheon, which holds a special place among the Buddhist arts, is fully finished and can be seen. It is said that the name Ranawana is derived from the Ranawana family name. We request all the devotees who visit this Pinbima to preserve the beautiful forest environment.
