This series is a new one for Trader Doom in 2025 as Doomette explores classic cocktails and their history while trying to bring knowledge and vibes from the days when you got dressed up to go have a drink....when bars were dark, smoky, and filled with romance...when cocktails were simple and elegant. Come along on this journey with Doomette for the first episode of SWANK: Cocktail Hour with Doomette.

This episode tackles the Manhatten, credited to George Black in the 1860s/1870s. Doomette will give you a little history and show two ways to make this cocktail classic!

What drinks would you like to see next?

The Classic UP Manhatten:

2 oz rye whiskey (Doomette used Rittenhouse Rye)
1 oz sweet vermouth (Doomette used Dolin Vermouth Rouge)
2 dashes of Angostura Bitters

Put all ingredients together in a mixing glass or shaker tin and stir with one big rock of ice and a few smaller pieces of ice for around 30 seconds or until you get the cocktail as chilled/diluted as you would like. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass. Garnish with one stemless cherry.

Manhatten on the Rocks:

2 oz rye whiskey (Doomette used Rittenhouse Rye)
1 oz sweet vermouth (Doomette used Dolin Vermouth Rouge)
2 dashes of Angostura Bitters

Put all ingredients into shaker tin. Add one rock of ice and several smaller pieces of ice. Place the top on the shaker and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds. Strain the drink into a rocks glass or an old fashioned glass with one big rock of ice, leaving dirty ice in the tin. Garnish with one stemless cherry.
