The Yi Yuan Chinese Garden, Bendigo, (also known as the Gardens of Joy) is reminiscence of Beijing’s Summer Palace, Imperial Gardens.
These gardens are an integral part of the Golden Dragon Museum. They beautifully showcase the role that the Chinese community played during the Gold Rush era.
The garden was built in collaboration with the local Chinese community, in Bendigo, and artists from Hebei Province in China. It’s a testament to cross-cultural creativity and friendship.
As you wander through, you might just feel that “summer palace vibes feeling.” It’s like, a gentle whisper of ancient dynasties, and blooming lotus ponds.
Within the gardens, is the Guan Yin Miao Buddhist Temple, which is dedicated to The Goddess of Mercy (Guan Yin). It’s a serene spot for reflection and inner peace.
The Garden architecture and construction is meticulously authentic. It captures the essence of the Imperial Palace in Beijing, making it a little slice of China in regional Australia.
This Big Lotus Flower, graces the forecourt to the Chinese Museum, making it an integral part of the Dai Gum San precinct and home, of the Bendigo Markets.
The Lotus represents Buddhism, along with the related sculptures of a chrysanthemum and garlic blossoms which represents Confucianism and Taoism.
At night it is beautifully illuminated, and makes a stunning sight.
