In 5G NR (New Radio), PHR (Power Headroom Report) is a mechanism used by the User Equipment (UE) to inform the gNB (5G Base Station) about its available uplink transmission power. This helps the network optimize power control and resource allocation, ensuring efficient uplink scheduling and stable communication.
There are two types of PHR in 5G NR:
1. Regular PHR – Reports power headroom based on current transmission conditions.
2. Extended PHR – Provides additional details, especially in carrier aggregation and dual connectivity scenarios.
PHR is triggered in different situations, such as:
• When there is a significant change in uplink transmission power.
• During periodic reporting intervals defined by the network.
• After a change in uplink resource allocation.
