I bought my car with 100% payment up front. There was no talk of financing and the arrangement of the removal of the ELO GPS tracking system was talked about and promised.
The ELO GPS system is strictly an OBD interrupt. Unplug both sides of the unit and plug the vehicle's harness into the OBD Port on the car and it's out. Toyotas are not made to have an OBD constantly online. It is not a good thing and it is actually detrimental to the system. It can also cause an ECU failure. The same thing goes for those insurance monitoring systems that plug into the OBD. Be wary of those types of devices.
Thousand Oaks Toyota was highly unethical. They sold me a car that was repainted but lied on why the badging was in the wrong spot on the back tailgate. It was sold as a certified used vehicle (with all of the extra expense involved), they did the absolute minimums and failed to do things that they put in writing. Because of the 3-hour drive each way to the dealership, they won by making it so freaking difficult to deal with them. They lied multiple times as well. They required me to double and triple up on proof that they were already in possession of.
I originally posted this as unlisted for an opportunity for the dealership to make things right. I just realized that it was still unlisted and decided to make it public. Taking business away from Thousand Oaks Toyota couldn't happen to a better group of people. Lying assholes. They made minimal efforts after returning the car, they even pulled crap on that. The car also had a problematic battery which has since been addressed with a class action lawsuit, but they could have dealt with proactively instead of costing me out of pocket to buy a new battery.
They unilaterally dismissed my complaint.
They paid somebody to drive all the way from north of Los Angeles down to my home in San Diego County to remove the ELO GPS tracking system. I offered to remove it myself, but they didn't want people to discover how easy it is to defeat.
A service guy accidentally let loose that the car had been repainted although I had plenty of suspicions after getting the car home and seeing the paint variations and different light. It's hard to tell variations in white on a bright sunny day.
Toyota, on their part, failed to protect me even though there were multiple body panels damaged.
