Today we celebrate what is sometimes called "Gentile Christmas." In the visit of the Wise Men from the east, we see an early fulfillment of the prophecy of the Last Day that the nations will come to Christ. Even the rulers of the nations will be made to bow to Him!
The gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh give us a nice introduction to the subject of giving to Christ that we will pursue more specifically on Jan. 18, 25, and Feb. 1 in the Divine Services. The wise men teach us that the gift of Christ should motivate to give back in joy and thanksgiving.
