What a beautiful day. These trails are an old school favorite of ours. We used to ride these way back in the early 1990s regularly with friends after we’d finish UNM classes. We like doing a classic loop were we climb east up to the upper trails and ride north counter clockwise. We usually add the spur north out to the Tram tower and then back south on the lower western trails. We added in the 505 trail south this particular time.
There is space to park at the Elena Gallegos Parking area if you don’t want to wait around for a space at the several smaller trailhead parking lots. Please remember to keep single track single. We run a little higher PSI out here on the fat bikes because of all the rock gardens that exist out here.
Keep an eye out for fellow biker Major General William Neil McCasland who is missing and frequently biked and hiked this area. Search teams where active in the area the day we made this video. We hope he is found.
