Finding Your Land With Google Maps
The google maps app is a great tool to use when you're looking for land. Sure, it's not as good as traditional google earth navigation. But, if you're just trying to find your property or know what the boundaries are on your land, google maps can be a lifesaver!
It used to be that everyone had an atlas and they could get by with that for directions. Nowadays we rely so heavily on technology that many people don't even have their own copy of an atlas anymore! And yet today more than ever before in the history of mankind we need access to clean water and food- which means living spaces near arable land (which can only be found using google maps). It's also incredibly easy to find your property boundaries on google maps. You can use this handy tool to see where you are in relation to the property line.
It's also a great way to find out if there have been any changes that need your attention, like fences or driveways being built over time. You may not be aware of such an event but google maps will tell you right away!
So what are some other uses for google maps? Have you ever wanted more than one layer on your map- like satellite imagery and street views at the same time? Yep, google has got it covered with their "layers" feature! It really is just about impossible nowadays to survive without knowing how to navigate using google maps. As Jason has shown you in the google maps session, it is one of our favorite tools.
Topography on Google Maps
The topography of Google Maps is an excellent resource for a variety of purposes. The elevation and terrain features are especially helpful in navigating the outdoors or even while driving on unfamiliar roads. This article will explore how to use these features, as well as some other tips for using Google Maps outside of your usual smartphone apps. It is an incredibly helpful tool when surveying your land.
*How to Use the Topography Feature of Google Maps
First, you'll need to find the topography view. You can do this by either zooming out until it pops up or entering "terrain" on your search bar. Once in the topographical map mode, there are a number of different filters that allow you to change what information is displayed and focused on at any given time. For example, if you want to see where water sources might be located for camping purposes then turn off all other layers but those relating specifically to bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, ponds and oceans.
To change the height of the topography, simply drag your finger up or down. This way you can see specific details that might not be as obvious when looking at a regular map like contour lines and elevation points. You'll also notice some white dotted areas on topographical maps; these are called hillshades, which represent an area's average slope throughout its surface.
What Does A Land Surveyor Do?
A land surveyor is a professional that specializes in the measurement of land, boundary lines and buildings. They are often required to measure new construction projects or identify discrepancies when property boundaries change. Land surveyors work with many different types of professionals depending on what project they are working on including architects, engineers and builders. They also help when someone is looking to sell their property.
The work of a land surveyor varies depending on the project they are working on and those that require them to measure new construction projects or identify discrepancies when property boundaries change.
On Land Easements
A land easement is a legal right to use someone else's property. Land easements are typically used for access, or for utilities such as power lines and pipelines. Land owners grant an easement to another party by signing a contract in which they allow that person (or company) the right to cross their land with something like a pipeline or telephone line.
What most people don't know about land easements is that you can buy them too! If you're looking to build on some rural property, it is often cheaper and easier to purchase the rights from landowners who have granted themselves an easement than it would be if your goal was simply buying all of the acres outright.
