A time lapse movie showing a pole's shadow moving and changing length during a sunny day.
Media for my 'Notice Something' science class - "Measuring the Size of the Earth" where students notice the Earth's surface must be curved, not flat, and calculate its circumference. See http://noticesomething.com for more info.
Students from Balwyn Primary School measured the Earth's circumference to be between 38,576 km and 42,874 km using just the shadow cast from a pole, a bit of geometry and some smart thinking. Excellent result - the polar circumference is 40,008 km!
Time lapse taken with a Canon EOS 60D and EOS utility v2.1.3 in Melbourne, Australia on November 5th, 2013.
