Don't Go to College if You Suck at School

Описание: Please don't go to college if you suck at school. Do C's get degrees? In college, yes, they usually do. But if you're pulling straight C's in high school, then I believe you have no business in a college classroom.

Should you go to college? Is going to college the right choice for everyone? The mainstream rhetoric is that EVERYONE needs to go to college in order to compete in the 21st-century world. This line is repeated over and over with no regard to whether a high school student is even CAPABLE of doing well in a college setting. C-level students (who get the occasional low B or high D) are being told that college is the right path, it's the only way to get a job, having a college degree will open doors!

What these C-level students aren't told is that their C's in high school will turn into D's and F's in a college environment. The workload in the public school system is made as easy and foolproof as possible to appeal to the lowest common denominator. With the exception of maybe the highest level AP students, kids are pushed and pulled through the system during their high school years with little attention paid to their actual ability to complete meaningful work, think critically and independently, and manage limited resources (especially time).

It's not difficult to get A's and B's in the current U.S. public school system. The fact that a student is unwilling or unable to do the little amount of work required to reach this level in high school indicates that he or she CANNOT survive in a college setting where learning takes place on one's own time and the teacher is there to provide guidance on particularly difficult concepts.

Students who haven't been empowered or trained to take their education in their own hands aren't prepared to do well in the college classroom. No one is there to hold their hands, no one is there to show them how to fill in the blanks on the worksheets (because there are none), and no one is there to help them artificially boost their grade at the end of the semester by allowing them to hand in the entire semester's workload in the LAST WEEK of class!

The bottom line: don't go to college if you suck at school. Do something better with your time. Learn a trade. Work hard and be the best at what you're good at. And save yourself $80,000 in student loans that you'll never be able to pay back.
