The word Fontanar, means spring, and refers to the infinite springs on which their houses are based. A hill separates it from the valley of the Guadiana Menor river, giving rise to a hillside with deep ravines with steep slopes (with unevenness of up to 400 meters). From the top, enclaves such as the Mirador del Lirio (geodesic point of 898 meters) offer views of practically all of Eastern Andalusia, from where you can watch the sunset.


Its semidesertic landscape and its steppe flora and fauna are unique within the natural park. Neighborhoods such as La Loma stand out, a natural viewpoint to which must be added the uniqueness of its buildings, the cave houses, or La Rambla, with abundant springs of water and vegetation that make it a very interesting place with great natural attractions.


Pozo Alcón is a municipality in the Alto Guadalquivir region located in its extreme southeast, on the provincial border with Granada. The northern half of the term is included in the Natural Park of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, modifying its geomorphology towards the south and southeast, until the Guadiana Menor and Guadalentín rivers, where the landscape of Pozo Alcón changes abruptly with wide semi-desert areas, very eroded, of espartizales and thyme trees. Agriculture is the main activity, highlighting the cultivation of olive trees, herbaceous plants and almond trees.
