Faithfulness (Fidelity) spirit and truth
The concept of ‘Fidelity’ corresponded to faithful interpreter’ had initially been dismissed as literal word -for-word translation by Horace. Later in 17 century fidelity came to be identified with faithfulness to the meaning rather than words of the author.
The word ‘spirit’ has two meanings: the Latin word spiritus denotes creative energy or inspiration, or it meant the Holy spirit. For St Augustine ‘Spirit’ and the word ‘truth’ were intertwined with truth having the sense of ‘content’.
