𝗣𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗦 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞 𝗘𝗡𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: Police Cite Woman, Remove Shopping Cart from Park

Описание: SANTA MONICA — On Saturday, January 17, 2026, officers with the Santa Monica Police Department encountered a woman lying on a public park bench in Palisades Park during a routine patrol. The woman was in possession of a shopping cart containing personal belongings and appeared to be experiencing homelessness.

Under California Penal Code §485, unauthorized possession of lost or mislaid property—including shopping carts—may constitute misappropriation if the property is not returned to its rightful owner. The officer issued the woman a citation and instructed her to remove her belongings from the cart.

After the items were removed, officers took possession of the shopping cart and requested assistance from city personnel. A Santa Monica Community Services Officer later arrived in a pickup truck and transported the cart away from the park.
