I often find myself thinking about what sort of job I’d like to do in my later years - and honestly, becoming a Felco Secateur Servicing Specialist feels just about perfect. Cleaning and servicing my own secateurs is never a chore; in fact, it’s something I genuinely enjoy. There’s real satisfaction in it, and I find the whole process quite therapeutic.
In this video, I’ve removed the blade from a Felco Model 2 and given it a proper sharpen. I’ve used two stones: first, the Niwaki No. 220 Sharpening Stone, which is nice and coarse and helps clear away any rough spots on the blade. You’ll even hear that distinctive, gritty sound as the blade works across it.
After that, I move on to the Niwaki No. 1000 - a finer, everyday stone that essentially buffs the blade up, leaving it honed, smooth, and ready for use.
