Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Seventeen Come Sunday opens the English Folk Song Suite with energy, colour, and unmistakable folk character. This arrangement for flex-band was created with a strong focus on fidelity to the original score, preserving as much of Vaughan Williams’ material as possible while making the movement accessible to ensembles with variable instrumentation.
Rather than reducing the music to a minimal set of flex lines, the arrangement uses seven independent parts, allowing the original textures, counterlines, and harmonic movement to remain clear and recognizable. The expanded format gives directors practical flexibility without sacrificing musical substance.
The result is a flexible setting that retains the spirit and structure of the original — designed to sound like Vaughan Williams, not a simplified substitute.
