DJI Inspire 1, Focus, Lens Calibration and my Camera Settings For Successful Filming

Описание: The DJI X5 camera has many methods of adjusting focus. I decided to mention each method in-turn.
The first method is the auto focus method which is a simple tap to focus... which provides quick simple solution to photography. But in video it is undesired, as the auto focus function is not continuous...
Lens calibration is another way to get the picture to focus, but with this method, the lens needs to be calibrated for every time you change lenses... also its has been known to drift during flight. (either from engine vibration or loose optics in general)

The final method, which I find is best is putting the camera in full manual... in which you make all the adjustments your self...
This means you have you input aperture shutter speed and iso...
Using hyperfocal theory, you can lengthen the depth of field so that even in dynamic situations the field of view is in focus...

This is the preferred method to allow all focal plains to be filmed, compared to photography when the subject is in focus and the back ground is not... (for artistic interpretation)

Also note that I use peak focus threshold at 70% and manual focus assist (this zooms in at the center to allow better differentiation of edges) I also have a zoom lens which I focus at 42mm so that it is in focus at the other focal lengths...

setting the aperture midway to reduce light diffraction and shutter speed for cinematic motion blur is a tried and tested method...
My settings for shutter is 50 for a 24fps format
and aperture at f4-f8 which depends on brightness of day or depth of field distances... (although I use a ND 8 filter late noon filming)

As well as these focal methods its important to mention that your screen or tablet in the field is visible and that you reduce sun glare to a minimum. I recommend a sunhood for all outside flying...
This is important for camera setups and focus adjustments, although while flying I dont rely on the screen to often...

please note that if non of these methods don't allow you to keep focus, it is possible that mechanical vibration could be the main reason why focus might not be maintained... check when the aircraft in hover, that it is not vibrating excessively or the vibration plate show signs of malfunction... if so consult a DJI engineer for further information...
