"We believe the KINTEX anti-terrorism exercise taking place during this year's UFG (Ulchi Freedom Guardian) exercise gave us a very important opportunity to maintain and verify the combined defensive posture of the private sector, the government, the military and the police. In the past, the exercise was focusing mainly on the anti-terrorism exercise when it was only involving military. This time, it gave us a very good chance to focus on the available resources from related organisations since those are operating together this time in the exercise."

STORYLINE:
An anti-terror exercise combining South Korea's military, the police and the government took place in the city of Goyang on Tuesday.
More than 200 people participated in the the drill, including private sector employees, which took place at the country's largest exhibition building KINTEX.
Two people acting as "terrorists", wearing black balaclavas and carrying guns, entered the exhibition building and "kidnapped" three people from a mock international conference.
As the "terrorists" took away the "hostages", South Korean special forces repelled down the sides of the building and from a helicopter to safely evacuate the people from the conference.
The special forces soldiers then went on to rescue the "hostages" from a bus seized by the "terrorists".
The exercise, which was scheduled during the 2010 Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise period was intended to test the "combined defensive posture of the private sector, the government, the military and the police," the special forces' battalion commander said.
Lieutenant Ahn Jong-do said that previous anti-terror drills had focused mainly on military capabilities.
"This time it gave us a very good chance to focus on the available resources from related organisations," he said.
The drill also involved a scenario in which explosives were found at the exhibition hall.
The bomb disposal squad was dispatched to remove them and carry out a controlled explosion.
The exercise lasted for around 30 minutes.
A crowd of about a thousand people gathered to watch the proceedings and applauded when it was completed successfully.
