HOW TO PAINT REALISTIC BIRDS/the Cardinal with Suzanne Barrett Justis
In today's painting tutorial, I will show you how to paint realistic birds, in this case, I will show you how to paint the cardinal. This bird painting tutorial for beginners is also for advanced painters too! Painting birds in acrylics and oils uses a very similar painting technique. If painting in acrylics, use water as your solvent instead of Gamsol or linseed oil
Cardinals herald the eminent arrival of Spring. Hearing their calls has inspired me to do the brilliant red bird. Whether you paint in acrylics or oils, this easy, step by step painting tutorial is fun and informative. You will learn how to paint a male Cardinal from start to finish in this time lapsed, easy to follow oil painting tutorial. In this step by step, time lapse painting tutorial, you will see how to create the brilliant male cardinal in a dark green, woodland background. I will show you how I start with a loose sketch on a slick gessoed panel substrate I will explain how using the hot cad red and the cool alizarin crimson will create the form of the cardinal . I will demonstrate how to create detail using small brushes and opaque pigments.
