Byron Bay is one of my favourite places to spend summer. From epic diving out at Julian Rocks with schooling sharks and turtles, fantastic surfing, raging waterfalls, and an incredible surfy ocean vibe - the town is epic!
This is your guide to having the most fun in just 48 hours in Byron Bay.
To get started, head to Cape Byron Lighthouse for sunrise. This is a super popular sunrise spot and for good reason, it's insanely photogenic and it's Australia's most eastern point.
After sunrise head down to Byron Bay Dive Centre of Sundive Byron Bay for a scuba dive or snorkel out at Julian Rocks. This is one of my favourite dive sites in the country as there's almost always a school of friendly sharks residing at the rock, a range of Nemo's and Green Sea Turtles and Loggerhead Turtles. During the warmer summer months they have migratory Leopard Sharks, and over the winter months the site is home to the endangered Grey Nurse Shark. This site is also one of the best snorkelling locations in the country!
By now you're probably starving, so head into town and grab yourself a feed. We absolutely love Main Street Burger Bar which has a wild range of juicy burgers and shakes - another good option is Top Shop.
Alright it's probably the arvo now and we're not stopping. It's time to get wet again and experience the surf vibe this town is so well known for! If you've got a board check out The Pass and Wattegoes in the National Park for the best waves/ point breaks. If not - rent yourself a board and jump in at Main Beach or at Clarkes.
Now it's time to relax - head to Main Beach for sunset with a drink and the rest of the locals. Chill out now, as we're waking up early! (Also Miss Margaritas has an epic vibe if you're after some Mexican).
Just a short 15minute drive south of Byron Bay is a secluded beach with a range of epic sea caves you can explore. This is definitely one to check out (Whites Beach). The area's known for rough surf so if you're not super comfortable in surf and rips it's probably best not to swim here.
To finish off your trip you should definitely check out one of the many waterfalls in the area. We went to Killen Falls which is in our opinion the best bang for buck in terms of distance from town and remote epicness. Theres a range of other epic waterfalls in the area as well - pick your favourite and check it out!
Hope you enjoyed the film and it's inspired some adventure in you to check out the stunning and famous Byron Bay!
Hopefully this answers your question What to do in Byron Bay
