Thirukketheeswaram is one of the most powerful Hindu temples in Sri Lanka.
This Kovil is dedicated to God Shiva and is best known as one of the Pancha Ishwaram built by God Rama after the Rama Raawana war. According to the historical journals, God Raavana was a powerful devotee of God Shiva. Raavana was killed by God Rama during the war. God Shiva has advised God Rama to build five God Shiva temples around Sri Lanka to relieve the negative impact of God Raavana's death.
Many Hindus and natives visit this temple to worship and carry out the traditional pooja for God Shiva. When you visit the Thiruketheeswaram Kovil, you must follow religious customs by wearing decent, acceptable clothing.
