Explaining resilience to a 5-year-old @3wiseminutes
Resilience is a quality that helps us to bounce back when things don't go the way we planned or expected. It means being able to face challenges and overcome them, instead of giving up or feeling sad or frustrated. Resilience is like a superpower that we can all develop, no matter how big or small we are.
Imagine that you are playing a game with your friends and you accidentally drop the ball. You might feel upset or embarrassed, but if you are resilient, you would pick up the ball and keep playing. You wouldn't let one mistake ruin the rest of the game. Or imagine that you are learning how to ride a bike and you fall off. If you are resilient, you would get back on the bike and keep trying until you can ride it without falling.
Being resilient doesn't mean that we are never sad or afraid. It just means that we don't let those feelings control us. Instead, we try to find ways to feel better and keep moving forward. We might talk to a friend or grown-up we trust, or we might take a break and do something we enjoy. Whatever we do, we don't give up on ourselves or our goals.
So, resilience is like being a superhero who can face any challenge and come out stronger. It's not always easy, but it's something we can all learn and practice. And when we do, we can accomplish amazing things and be proud of ourselves.
