This video is all about 3 Confusing Prepositions to indicate time duration in English grammar. So the 3 confusing prepositions are SINCE, FROM, and FOR. They have one thing in common: they all suggest TIME DURATION. But they are also different from one another, as they tend to express Time Duration in three different ways.
So, this video is for those who still get confused over where to use the 3 confusing prepositions to indicate Time Duration in Perfect Continuous Tenses.
However, SINCE, FROM and FOR are used in PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSES: Present Perfect Continuous, Past Perfect Continuous and Future Perfect Continuous Tenses although Future Perfect Continuous Tense is hardly used these days. And Future Continuous Tense expressed the idea of Future Perfect Continuous Tense. Now all three Perfect Continuous Tenses are different from three Continuous tenses in that while Continuous tenses indicate only the idea of CONTINUITY OF AN ACTION, PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSES indicate CONTINUITY OF AN ACTION WITH DURATION.
DURATION is Time Adverb and it is expressed through SINCE, FROM and FOR.
SINCE is used in only PAST and PRESENT TENSES, FROM in only FUTURE TENSES but FOR in all three TENSES.
SINCE expresses the idea of DURATION by clearly giving the STARTING POINT of an action and by referring to the END POINT of the same. And this is possible only in PAST and PRESENT TENSES, because these two tenses are always bordered with STARTING POINT and END POINT.
FROM also expresses the idea of DURATION in somewhat vague manner, by clearly giving the STARTING POINT of an action but not indicating anything about the END POINT.
And this is possible only in FUTURE TENSE, because only the Future is extended into infinity.
FOR expresses DURATION clearly and directly. That's why it can be used in all three TENSES.
