This is our 2-day cycling tour around Lago Maggiore, riding the Italian–Swiss east side of the lake in a fully relaxed way.
The full loop around Lago Maggiore is about 170 km and almost completely flat, making it ideal for road bikes and touring bikes. You can ride Lago Maggiore in different ways:
1 day as a day on on road bike
2 days touring with sightseeing stops
3 days to visit all major highlights
or a fully relaxed 2-day option, like us, riding a partial 115 km loop and crossing the lake by ferry
We chose the Italian–Swiss east branch, combining easy cycling with beautiful lake views, quiet winter roads, and a scenic ferry crossing between Laveno and Verbania.
In winter, traffic is minimal — a huge contrast to the busy spring and summer months when cycling along the lake can be stressful.
