In October 2024, LVMPD launched Project Blue Sky, integrating drone technology into law enforcement operations. The first phase, Mobile Drone as a First Responder (Mobile DFR), put advanced drones directly into patrol vehicles. In just 8 months, Mobile DFR drones flew over 1,100 missions, helping locate suspects in 169 incidents and contributing to 386 arrests.
Now, we’re taking the next step. Last week, we unveiled Phase 2: Remotely Piloted Drones as a First Responder.
📍 What’s new in Phase 2?
LVMPD Skyports: Docking stations at police & fire stations across the valley, each housing a hive of three drones.
Always Ready: One drone launches while others recharge and upload mission data.
Rapid Response: Centralized operators can deploy drones within seconds of a call, improving safety and response times.

Every flight is logged, audited, and tied to an active incident.
Policies ensure protection of privacy and civil liberties.
Drones are equipped with safety features, including parachutes.
Damaging a police drone carries the same penalties as damaging a patrol vehicle.
This program is made possible thanks to public-private partnerships and community donors, ensuring taxpayer dollars are maximized.
