1. Vietnam bestows First Class Friendship Order upon IRRI

Описание: During the opening ceremonies of the 3rd International Rice Congress, on 9 November 2010 in Hanoi, the Vietnamese Government bestowed upon the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI; http://irri.org) its First Class Friendship Order on the occasion of the Institute's 50th anniversary. It recognizes the Institute's contributions to Vietnamese agriculture and almost 50 years of collaboration between the two parties.

Dr. Nguyen Van Bo, president of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences presented IRRI with the Friendship Order by Decree No. 1828, dated 1 November, signed by the president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Vietnam also awarded 15 Merit Medals "for the cause of Science and Technology development of Vietnam" (9 IRRI scientists;    • 2. Vietnam bestows Merit Medals awarded up...  ) and "for the cause of agriculture and rural development of Vietnam" (6 IRRI scientists;    • 3. Vietnam bestows Merit Medals awarded up...  ), by decrees signed by the ministers of science and technology and agriculture and rural development, respectively.

The nine IRRI scientists recognized for science and technology were IRRI DG Robert Zeigler, IRRI DDGR Achim Dobermann, Gurdev Khush, Darshan Singh Brar, Roland Buresh, Tô Phúc Tường, Kong Luen Heong, Abdelbagi Ismail, and Grant Singleton.

The six IRRI scientists recognized for agriculture and rural development were: IRRI DDG William Padolina, David Mackill, Sushil Pandey, David Johnson, Martin Gummert, and Julian Lapitan.
