Russia’s Ceasefire Resolution On Iran War Fails At UN Security Council Vote

Описание: The United Nations Security Council failed to adopt a Russia-backed resolution calling for an immediate halt to hostilities in the Middle East after it did not secure enough votes to pass. The proposal received four votes in favour, two against and nine abstentions, falling short of the support required for adoption.

Following the vote, Russia’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, strongly criticised countries that either opposed or abstained from the resolution. He argued that the measure represented a clear call for an end to the fighting and a return to peaceful negotiations. Nebenzia accused those countries of undermining their own stated commitment to international law and diplomacy, calling their stance “empty rhetoric.”

Nebenzia also said the Russian proposal did not contradict a separate diplomatic initiative backed by Bahrain and several Gulf states aimed at easing tensions in the region. Describing the outcome of the vote as “surreal” and a “disgrace,” he warned that the failure to adopt the resolution would prolong instability.

Meanwhile, the United States rejected Russia’s accusations. US Ambassador Mike Waltz, who currently holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council, said Moscow was attempting to shield Iran and falsely equate US actions with Tehran’s role in the region.
