Released in 1975, Jaguar (ジャガー) shifts away from the tropical serenity of Rainforest, embracing a wilder, more electrifying sound. The inspiration came from the album’s closing track, where the trio were given full creative freedom, resulting in a raw jazz-rock experience. Recognizing their natural affinity for this sound, Ryo encouraged them to expand on it, leading to an album that pulsed with energy, blending surf rock, jazz, and Afro-Latin rhythms.

Jaguar became a wild and dynamic adventure, propelling Phantasia beyond niche jazz circles and into the heart of a thriving underground scene. Their music now filled clubs and small festivals, bringing a newfound dance energy to their performances.

After the trio graduated, Ryo found himself at a crossroads. He had grown attached to the energy of Phantasia, embracing the wild spirit of live performances alongside his students. Rather than stepping away immediately, he chose to guide them through this next phase, teaching them how to command the stage on their own. Slowly, he began taking a step back, but not without leaving an open door. Before fully returning to academia, he made them an offer, one final project, a record that would close this chapter of their journey together.

Fun Fact:
Jaguar was the last album the trio recorded as students, capturing their raw passion and youthful energy. Every track pulses with the excitement of a band on the verge of breaking into something bigger.
