From the 1970s through the early 2000s, movies were built differently—real locations, practical sets, miniatures, and in-camera effects anchored even the most fantastical stories in something tangible. That’s why films from that era still hold up today, both visually and emotionally.

I contrast the look and feel of modern CGI-heavy productions with the hybrid, practical approach used in classics like The Lord of the Rings trilogy, where real locations, massive miniatures, and physical environments gave Middle-earth weight, texture, and longevity.
