Speaker Biography: Matt de la Peña is the No. 1 New York Times best-selling, Newbery Medal-winning author of five picture books (including "Love," "Last Stop on Market Street" and the upcoming "Carmela Full of Wishes") as well as six critically acclaimed young adult novels (including "Mexican WhiteBoy," "We Were Here" and "The Living"). In 2016, he was awarded the Intellectual Freedom Award by the National Council of Teachers of English. He received his M.F.A. in creative writing from San Diego State University and his B.A. from the University of the Pacific, where he attended school on a full athletic scholarship for basketball. He lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., with his family. De la Peña's new book, with Loren Long, is "Love" (Putnam).
Speaker Biography: Loren Long is an award-winning, No. 1 New York Times best-selling children's book author and illustrator. He is the creator of the "Otis" series of picture books, as well as "Little Tree" and the upcoming "There's a Hole in the Log on the Bottom of the Lake." He is also the illustrator of "Love" (Putnam) by Matt de la Peña, "Of Thee I Sing" by Barack Obama, the re-illustrated edition of "The Little Engine That Could" by Watty Piper, "Mr. Peabody's Apples" by Madonna and "Good Day, Good Night" by Margaret Wise Brown. Loren lives in Cincinnati with his wife and sons.
