IRAN BACKS MOSCOW: Tehran Calls on Russia to Play Key Role in Strait of Hormuz Talks

Описание: Iran has backed a potential Russian role in dialogue over the Strait of Hormuz, with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Hamid Ghanbari saying Moscow could help lay the groundwork for talks among countries with interests in the strategic waterway. Tehran says Hormuz should be used for commercial shipping rather than military purposes and has called for “meaningful dialogue based on respect” involving coastal states, energy-importing nations and exporters. Iran also stressed that it remains independent of major powers and will continue pursuing its national interests. The comments come as the security of the Strait of Hormuz remains a major concern for global energy markets and oil supplies.
