With 2-to-5 seconds on the line per lap at a track like Highlands Motorsport Park, Wayne from ‪@MichelinGlobal‬ and any other data-driven club or professional level tyre user believe the answer is obvious. Making the correct tyre choice for your car will net you better and cheaper results than chasing those last little, or even some big, power gains when it comes to consistency and results.

This interview is packed with numerous questions on what you should be talking to your tyre supplier or race engineer (even if that is just your smartest mate) when it comes to tyre selection on the day or even trying to make one set last an entire racing season for those of us on a lower budget.

The biggest differences in the construction of a slick and semi-slick when it comes to tyre casing and compounds are discussed along with how 'over gripping' a car with tyres that a too wide can lead to a decrease in performance due to loss of feeling for the driver and how any gains made with an improved tyre selection come down to individual factors that include the driver and car setup, not just what you read worked for someone else somewhere on the internet.

The topic of weaving and braking to warm tyres and which is more effective is also explained along with how low pressures and high camber are the two biggest killers if mismanaged tyres during the critical warming stage at the beginning of a race.

The knowledge doesn't stop flowing there though as tyre blankets vs tyre ovens are also explained by Wayne with the ability to set and forget tyre blankets giving them a firm edge over tyre ovens which can see a spread of heat distributed when not monitored and rotated correctly pre-use.
