1x10 drive trains are simple, quiet and light. Wolf Tooth Components allows mountain bikers on a budget to achieve a 1x setup without buying XX1. The Wolf Tooth Components narrow wide Drop Stop Chainrings and 42 tooth giant cog can be paired with a clutch style rear derailleur like a Shimano shadow Plus or Sram type 2 to make the ultimate 1x10 setup.
1x10 makes any mountain bike both lighter and quieter. It is also great to not have to worry about a front shifter when riding. The simplicity is great when racing.
I tested the Wolf Tooth Components Drop Stop Chainrings and 42 tooth Giant Cog on Moab's Porcupine Rim and Captain Ahab and on Colorado's Dakota Ridge, Buffalo Creek, Red Rocks, and Apex. The chain almost always stayed on. In several months of hard riding, the chain only came off once.
