As the federal shutdown continues and SNAP benefits remain uncertain, local communities are stepping in to provide food assistance for families in need.
Gochnaur Farms in West Concord has converted part of its store into a food pantry, open to anyone who needs it. Megan Gochnaur said the idea came from conversations with her husband about how to help during the shutdown.
Thirty miles away in Rochester, the Boyer family’s annual Halloween display along 51st St. NW is raising money for Channel One Food Bank. The display, now in its 11th year, features 162 inflatable characters and has already raised more than $9,000.
