The last ten nights of Ramadan are approaching.
For many of us, Ramadan passes quickly. The days move fast, routines settle in, and before we realise it, the most important nights of the entire year are already at our doorstep. But the question every believer must ask themselves is simple: are we truly ready for them?
In this powerful and deeply reflective Jumu’ah Khutbah Ustadh Rehan Salim reminds us that the final ten nights are not ordinary nights. They are described by scholars as the greatest nights of the entire year, nights in which opportunities for forgiveness, elevation, and acceptance are multiplied in ways that cannot be compared to any other time.
At the heart of these nights lies Laylatul Qadr — the Night of Decree. A night described in the Qur’an as better than one thousand months, a reward equivalent to more than eighty years of worship. But what does that really mean in practical terms today? How should we understand the immense value of a single night whose reward surpasses a lifetime of devotion? And if this night is so significant, why did Allah choose to conceal its exact timing?
This khutbah explores these profound questions while also addressing common misconceptions that many Muslims have about Laylatul Qadr. Is it always the 27th night? Could it fall on different nights every year? Why did Allah leave its exact moment hidden? And how should a believer approach these nights if they truly want to find it?
More importantly, the khutbah shifts the focus from simply waiting for one specific night to adopting the mindset encouraged in the Sunnah: searching for it across all ten nights with sincerity, effort, and consistency. The Prophet ﷺ did not treat one night as special while neglecting the rest. Instead, he increased in worship, intensified his devotion, and dedicated himself fully to these final moments of Ramadan.
Ustadh Rehan Salim also provides practical guidance rooted in the Sunnah on how to approach the final ten nights without burning out. What does it really mean to “bring life to the nights” with worship? How can someone balance work, family responsibilities, and children while still striving to maximise these nights? What role does iʿtikāf play in helping believers detach from distractions and reconnect with Allah?
The khutbah also highlights the powerful supplication the Prophet ﷺ taught for Laylatul Qadr — a duʿā centred on seeking Allah’s forgiveness and complete purification from sins. Because Ramadan is not only about fasting and prayer. At its heart, it is about **returning to Allah with humility**, asking for our past to be wiped away and our future to be transformed.
A profound reminder shared in this khutbah is that actions are judged by their endings. This principle applies not only to Ramadan, but to life itself. No matter how distant someone may have been from Allah in the past, the door of mercy remains open. A sincere return, even late in life, can still transform a person’s final outcome.
And when reflecting on Allah’s mercy, the khutbah reminds us of a reality that should fill every believer with hope: Allah’s mercy is greater than the mercy a mother has for her child. Out of one hundred portions of mercy, Allah sent only one to creation and kept ninety-nine for the Day of Judgement.
But this mercy is not something we take for granted. It is something we seek with humility, sincerity, and effort.
So as these final nights approach, every believer must ask themselves:
Will we treat these nights like any other nights?
Will we search for Laylatul Qadr with seriousness and intention?
Will this Ramadan end as it began — or will its ending transform us?
The answers to these questions could shape the outcome of our entire year… or even our entire life.
Watch this khutbah to understand how to approach the final ten nights of Ramadan the way they were meant to be approached.
