UGC to revise faculty hiring norms, allowing universities to recruit multidisciplinary experts

Описание: In an interview to ThePrint, University Grants Commission Chairperson M. Jagadesh Kumar discusses key developments in India’s higher education sector. He emphasised the need to first address deficiencies in the current system and then implement new approaches to prepare students for the future.

In 2025, the focus will be on scaling up existing reforms for broader impact, he said. The UGC is also revising the 2018 teacher appointment regulations to give universities more flexibility in hiring faculty from multidisciplinary backgrounds. This aims to help institutions adapt better to evolving educational needs.

He also said that ahead of launching the Digital University, efforts are underway to strengthen existing online programs. Additionally, universities from Europe, Australia and the US are exploring opportunities to open campuses in India, which could further boost the sector.
