The VB–G RAM G Bill 2025 introduces a major overhaul of India’s rural employment system by replacing the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) with new provisions. This bill proposes higher work guarantees, seasonal pauses, and tech-driven monitoring, but also raises concerns about federal fiscal responsibility and administrative burden on state governments.
Key Changes Proposed by the VB–G RAM G Bill:
125 Days of Guaranteed Employment: The bill increases guaranteed wage employment from 100 days to 125 days per rural household.
Change in Centre-State Funding: The bill introduces a 90:10 funding pattern for select states, shifting more financial responsibility to states.
Normative Allocation: Replaces the demand-driven funding model with a central allocation for each state.
Seasonal Pause: States will pause work during the peak agricultural seasons (up to 60 days).
Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans: Introduces a top-down planning structure integrating rural infrastructure with national priorities like water security and climate resilience.
