"Will You Love Me Tomorrow," also known as "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow," is a pop song written by the American songwriting team of Carole King and Gerry Goffin. The song, performed by The Shirelles, became a number one hit in the US in 1961. It enjoyed similar success in the UK. In 1999, the song won a Grammy Hall of Fame Award and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In the English-speaking world, only a few contemporary single cover versions have become known. The most prominent singer, Brenda Lee, released the song in April 1961.
The lesser-known US singer Jean Campbell had previously released a version on her record label Embassy.
A single featuring the duo "The Raindrops" had already been released in the UK in January 1961. None of these versions made it onto the charts.
In the LP sector, numerous cover versions were released between 1961 and 1963 with prominent artists, including Pat Boone (1961), Bobby Vee (1961), Ben E. King (1962), Little Eva (1962), and the Chiffons (1963).
Dusty Springfield recorded both the original English and a French version entitled "Demain tu peux changer" in 1964.
In 1968, the American pop band "The Four Seasons" re-recorded the song and reached number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100.
After Tom Lord, the song was covered in jazz by Buddy Lucas, Sonny Stitt, and Charles Earland, among others.
In 1971, the song appeared on a single by Roberta Flack.
In the same year, Carole King herself released a new version of the song on her album Tapestry.
A version by Bryan Ferry was released as a single in 1993.
The Bee Gees recorded the song in 1995.
A more recent cover version was by Amy Winehouse. It was released immediately after the British soul singer's untimely death and entered the UK charts.
The original version with the Shirelles generated little interest in Germany. Nevertheless, the successful German author Ralph Maria Siegel wrote German lyrics for "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" with the title line "Have you forgotten all that?"
The record company Electrola released this song in February 1961 with Rex Gildo.
