Описание: Hidden along Victoria’s rugged coastline is a hidden realm where land, sea, and sky converge in a breathtaking tapestry of life - Western Port. A rich wonderland shaped by mighty currents, great tidal surges and ancient drowned riverbeds. The result is a mosaic of marine habitats and life, some found nowhere else in the world.



This rich and complex bay is home to vast intertidal mudflats, some of the world’s southernmost mangroves and thriving reef systems built by tiny marine architects. Its waters support an astonishing diversity of life, including the largest shearwater, fur seal, and penguin colonies in the Southern Hemisphere, as well as 65% of Victoria’s threatened bird species.



Despite that it’s more ecologically significant and complex than Port Phillip, boasting three to four times the total number of species diversity —Western Port remains largely unknown and undervalued.



Our challenge is how to get people to care for something that they don’t know exists? And how can we have a conversation around our actions on land and the impacts it has on these marine environments? We can’t.

Western Port Down Under is more than just a documentary—it’s a call to action. It aims to reveal this largely unseen world, highlighting its beauty, ecological significance and the urgent need for conservation. Through immersive underwater footage and a narrative that connects audiences emotionally and scientifically to the bay, we will showcase the irreplaceable value of Western Port’s marine environment. ​

The health of Western Port is critical to biodiversity and human well-being. Mangroves play a critical role in carbon sequestration, while the bay supports endangered species and a thriving marine community with unique habitats found nowhere else on the planet. However, rising development pressures, climate change and pollution threaten this delicate balance. Without immediate action and increased public awareness, these unique ecosystems face irreversible harm.



Western Port Down Under will act as a compelling and engaging bridge, informing and inspiring audiences to become active participants in the protection of this sanctuary. The content developed will be made available in a free online library for communities and schools to use, creating a marine stewardship ethic. ​
