Step into the hidden world of Þórsmörk with this 360° hiking experience along Álfaslóð — the “Elf Trail.” This short 1–2 hour walk begins in Húsadalur and takes you through a landscape woven with Icelandic folklore, legends, and natural beauty.

The trail winds up to the rock Össa, where a hole known as The Eagle’s Eye is said to reveal your future if you dare to look through. From there, the path continues into the birch forest and down to the Elf Rock, split in two — a magical gateway between the human world and the realm of elves and hidden people (huldufólk). Wander carefully and remember your way, so you can return from the invisible world.

Along the way, you’ll follow a creek to Singing Cave, where the murmur of a small waterfall echoes like songs of elves and spirits. The route climbs between mossy boulders, passes through the enchanted Elf Forest, and descends into the three forest valleys where myth and nature meet.

A short distance ahead lies the chariot of Thor, the god of thunder, before the trail rises to a cliff above the Markarfljót canyon — offering panoramic views of Tröllagjá and the surrounding Þórsmörk valley. The path ends at Dwarf Rock, standing guard along the flood embankment that protects Húsadalur from glacial outbursts.
