Did you know that when the power is down, the internet is down, cell towers are down, that many Ham Radio (Amateur Radio) operators can still use their radios and computers to transmit messages and talk? When set up properly a HAM station can run for days on a 12 volt battery system. Join me as I get an inside look at an Emergency communications drill in Illinois, practicing communication readiness and emergency communications. I'll check in on W9RY at his "Ham Shack" (private communication center) as he delivers an emergency message (drill) from the Massac County Hospital located in Far Southern Illinois and gets the message to the command center located in Springfield Illinois.
