The pits are deep holes in Headwaters lake that tend to hold fish throughout the year. There are many different bait choices to choose from. You can go with Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, worms, or Flukes on the artificial side or simply pick up a few dozen shiners and hang on.
The pits drop to depths of approx. 28 ft. and are surrounded by hydrilla. Your best bet for fishing the Pits at Headwaters Lake is to work your way around the edges of the Hydrilla bringing your baits off the mats and letting them sink on the edge or cast parallel with the edge and work your bait back slowly.
The Pits in this video are all located to the east side of the S Canal which makes them very easy to navigate to. In a future video we will cover more deep pits both in the central part of the lake as well as some deep areas south in Egan.
