Afsarwala Tomb and Mosque | Arab Sarai Gateway | Delhi
Arab Sarai Gateway was built around 1560 during Akbar’s rule. It served as the grand entrance to a residential complex (sarai) built for Arab scholars and craftsmen who came to work on Humayun’s Tomb. Made of red sandstone, the gateway reflects early Mughal architectural style and historical significance.
Afsarwala Tomb is a Mughal-era monument located inside the Humayun’s Tomb complex in Delhi. It was built around 1566–1567 during the reign of Akbar. The word “Afsar” means officer, so historians believe this tomb belonged to a high-ranking Mughal official. A mosque stands next to the tomb, following the Mughal tradition of building religious structures near burial sites.
