Reading & Northern 425: American Thunder in the Lehigh | Mountain Top 2019

Описание: On the weekend of July 4th, 2019, the Mountain Top Rotary Club hosted their annual steam excursion (Reading & Northern #425 Mountain Top Excursion 2019). Powered by Ex GM&O 4-6-2 #425, the RBMN brought out their pride and joy. Starting in the Penobscot yard, the sing of a B&O 3 Chime echoed, as the train left. As sun turned to clouds, and clouds turned to rain, the train approached its destination, Jim Thorpe. The Thunder and lightning turned into a light rain by the time locomotive #425 was to be turned on the turntable. As we approached Glen Onoko, the Sun was shining, and the heat was beating down on us as #425 made her way up the steep grades. Including shots at the White Haven Tunnel, the sun disappeared and the rain rolled in as the #425 approached Penobscot.

Reading & Northern #425 is a 4-6-2 Pacific Type Steam Locomotive Built by the Baldwin Locomotive works in 1928 for the Gulf, Mobile & Northern Railroad. She is the first of two G-1 Type locomotives for the GM&N (425 and later scrapped 426). When the locomotives went to the GM&O, they became 580 (425), and 582 (426). 425 traveled to many other railroads, such as the Louisiana & Eastern, Valley Forge Scenic Railway, Wilmington & Western, and the Blue Mountain & Reading, now the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern. In 1992, 425 was painted in her famous Blue Paint Scheme in honor of the Reading Crusader. In 2011 425 was given roller bearings by the Strasburg Railroad, and painted in 2014 to her current blue.
