He lost his place in the 11 as Surya Kumar yadav replaced him in the Team India Squad.He did not make it to the final 15 member squad for the T20 Worldcup 2021. He lost his IPL captaincy to Rishabh Pant. He was not retained by Delhi Capitals Franchise for IPL 2022. Against all the odds, he worked very hard and made a comeback.

Shreyas Iyer became the first Indian to score a hundred and fifty on Test debut and was awarded the Player of the Match. In the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, He was bought kolkata knight riders for whopping 12.25 Crores.
He has been appointed as the new captain of KKR. He became the 2nd indian batsman to score 3 consecutive fifties in a T20I series and also won the man of the series award. He also holds the record for scoring most runs in 3 match T20I series. When everyone was struggling to score runs in the 2nd test vs Sri lanka at Bangalore, he smashed back to
back fifties and won the match award. In his last 7 Matches, he scored 495 runs at an average of 99 with 6 fifties, won 5 man of the match
awards and a player of the series award.
