In this video, I spotted the powerful HŽ 2132 diesel shunting locomotive moving passenger coachs at Zagreb Glavni Kolodvor, the main railway station in Croatia.
Shunting is the essential process of manoeuvring wagons between tracks to prepare trains for departure. It requires strong coordination between station dispatchers and the locomotive driver to ensure safe and efficient movements.
Another widely used method is hump shunting, where wagons are pushed over a hill and released. With the help of retarders and switches, they are slowed down and directed onto the required train set.
