Marcella's was the kind of place that appeared in lifestyle magazines. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river. Exposed brick walls from the original 1890s warehouse. A Michelin star that the chef, André, had earned six months after I'd hired him away from a restaurant in Paris.
The hostess greeted me with practiced politeness. "Good evening. Do you have a reservation?"
