This video is presented for historical, educational, and documentary purposes. It contains rare footage from the original Nickelodeon Slime Time Sweepstakes, produced in collaboration between Nickelodeon Broadcast Programming & Network Marketing and Bethea Miteff Productions, Inc.

This early version of Slime Time aired live and is considered one of the earliest examples of: interactive children’s broadcasting using:

AT&T Video Phone technology
A Commodore Amiga controlling the game logic and graphics
A Panasonic LaserDisc system for celebrity inserts
Live Abekas video switching and compositing

The program predates and helped pave the way for later Nickelodeon interactive shows, including the 2000s Slime Time Live format.

🏆 Historical Notes

Widely believed to have received a Golden Phone Award from AT&T for innovation in telecommunication-based entertainment.

During at least one broadcast, the call-in volume reportedly overloaded portions of the Eastern U.S. telephone system, prompting a temporary investigation due to national security concerns during the Gulf War.
