1 to 3 Trap Door Divert for Shredded Cheese Bags

Описание: Case Study 📁 – Our challenge was to creatively integrate conveyors and a 1:3 Divert system to a three-laned strapper machine that bundles shredded bags of cheese. The strapper could run all three lanes, lanes 1 and 2, lanes 1 and 3, or lanes 2 and 3. Our conveyors and Divert system needed to be built within a small footprint and tight angles.

There were two different sized bags on this production line. They weighed either 1 pound with 135-150 products per minute (ppm) that are three across or 2.5 pounds at 90 ppm two across.

Solution:
Our solution was a high-speed 1:3 Divert system that started off with a friction-surfaced Modular Plastic Belt Conveyor. The friction surface maintained the shredded cheese bags at a stable orientation when conveyed on an incline. From there, the bags then smoothly transfer onto a 45 degree curved Zero Tangent conveyor to make that tight angle possible, leading to the Servo 1:3 Divert Trap Doors.

Small Plastic Modular Belt Conveyors with attached Servo Motors that helped pivot the belt upward were used as the trap doors. Attached photo eyes would sense the incoming bag so the Divert system could communicate when to pivot the small belts. Bags of cheese would then fall onto a Plastic Modular Belted Conveyor, paired with adjustable/static guide rails, below the 1:3 Trap Door Divert. From there, the cheese bags are then transferred into the strapper.

One other important thing to note is that operators can use the provided HMI controls to deactivate one or all trap doors in case one or all strapper lanes shut down. Once deactivated, the cheese bags would then be conveyed in the direction of flow out a side reject chute to be later reintroduced on the production line.
